Meet Dana Stoufer

Meet Dana Stoufer!

Twenty years ago last March, I walked through the doors of Phillips, McElyea, Carpenter & Welch, P.C. as an employee.  I served as a Legal Secretary to one of our attorneys and thoroughly enjoyed my employment.  After the birth of my daughter, I was forced to take a short sabbatical to stay home and care for my child, but during that time, provided fill-in work for the firm when needed.  I came back part-time at the Osage Beach office in 1998 and began working in the probate field. I remain concentrated in the probate field to present date as a Legal Assistant.

I am often asked why I enjoy working in the probate field, as it would seem to be redundant.  This could not be further from the truth.  Working in the probate field contains a vast array of diversity and enables you to venture into almost every aspect of the law.  You are required to delve into real estate law, estate law, family law, bankruptcy, financial law, etc., and you must familiarize yourself with each aspect thereof as it would apply to any given case.
I am constantly learning.  In addition, working in this field gives me a personal sense of satisfaction in that it allows me to assist individuals who are going through a situation that no one would wish to be in, and help walk them through it and assist them in finding closure.  It can be a very rewarding feeling.

I am the Legal Assistant to all five of our attorneys and manage their probate associated files for them.  We are a very tight knit group and honestly our office is a home away from home type of atmosphere.  Most of us have been together for so many years that we have been there for the birth of children and grandchildren, celebrated the graduations and marriages of our children, provided support and prayers during the loss of a loved one or family member, and experienced each of these life events standing together.  We have enjoyed dinner parties together, participated in float trips together (wherein one certain Legal Assistant and one certain attorney were not afraid to swallow a live minnow) had cookouts together and played some really amazing practical jokes on one another.   This firm is an amazing firm to work for and I am thankful each and every day for the opportunity to be a part of this family.

I have been a lifelong resident of Macks Creek, Missouri.  I am a Macks Creek Alumni having attended Macks Creek School from first grade to my graduation therefrom.  I have remained loyal to our little school and I continue to be involved in various organizations and functions concerning the school district.  I have served in the past as President of the P.T.A. for the Macks Creek School District and am currently entering into my third year on the Macks Creek School Board, my current position being Vice-President of the board.  I have participated in Booster Club functions as well as Project Graduation fund raisers and functions.

When I am not at work, I enjoy swimming, fishing and camping with my family and competing in dog trials that are held in various areas of Missouri as well as other states.  The farthest we have ventured to participate in a dog trial is Indiana
