Giving back - Volunteer opportunities at the Lake of the Ozarks
Volunteering at the Lake
We live in such a wonderful community at the Lake of the Ozarks, and many of us are blessed with jobs, families, shelter and food. Unfortunately, there are also many at the Lake that are in need of help during the holiday season. The Law Offices of Phillips, McEylea, Carpenter & Welch, P.C. want to share some information on how to help by volunteering to help those in need (in particular, our local children).Organizations that can use your help
Christmas for Kids/Ozark Coast Kiwanis Club - this annual event happens this Sunday, December 8th at the Country Club Hotel in Lake Ozark. The goal of this event is to help local needy children receive Christmas gifts that their families may not have the means to provide any. In addition, money raised is distributed to 10 other local charities to help underprivileged children and their families. The event starts at 7pm and is one of the biggest social events of the year. Camden County Child Advocacy Council - "Adopt" families and provide items on children's wish lists by visiting the council's thrift shop at 77 Dawson Road, behind the Save-A-Lot in Camdenton. Last year, donors made dreams come true for more that 600 children in 400 families. To participate, stop by the Camdenton Walmart and select one or more paper ornaments with the child's information. Drop off gifts at the thrift shop.
Miller County Child Advocacy Council - also taking donations of gifts, toys, clothing for more than 200 children through its annual Holiday of Hope program. Donations can be sent to the Miller County Child Advocacy Council at PO Box 223, Eldon, MO 65026 or by dropping at the Eldon Advertiser.
The Salvation Army (www.salvationarmy.org) - From sites of natural and man-made disasters to places of human conflict, the Salvation Army is there to provide compassion and practical support to those in real and sudden need. The Army strives to provide first for the immediate physical needs but beyond that, ministry for the aching heart and the weary soul. Volunteers are always needed to "Ring the Bell" outside of local businesses to help raise money for the needy. If you would like to help, contact the center in Jefferson City at 573-634-8357.
Other organizations need your help!
In Miller, Morgan, and Camden counties, there are many who may not have a roof over their heads or enough food to eat. Please consider reaching out to the various food pantries, homeless shelters, and relief organizations to help however you can. Giving back to our communities is the best way to get into the Christmas spirit!
