Ozark Yacht Club's Parade of Lights

Saturday, May 24 at 8:30 PM

 From powerboats to sailboats, all boat owners are encouraged to participate in this annual event to celebrate Memorial Day. Participants will decorate their boats in creative art displays and cruise a couple miles along the lake, commemorating the men and women who have sacrificially served our country. Prizes will be given for the Best Decorated Boat and the First Runner Up. Whether you are a participant or a bystander, this is sure to be a beautiful event.

The Heart of the Holiday

As we celebrate this weekend, it's important to remember the reasons behind this momentous holiday. Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, was first celebrated in 1868. The day was established as a time to decorate the graves of those who had died in the civil war with flowers and perform other ceremonies to honor their military service. After World War I, the name of the holiday changed to Memorial Day and the observances expanded to include all U.S. Military men and women, not just those that had served in the civil war.
