Memorial Day - Thank You To Our Troops

Memorial Day is largely regarded as a big holiday weekend designed to celebrate the start of another great summer. While we are certainly in favor of taking some time to relax and have fun, the team at the Law Offices of Phillips, McElyea, Carpenter, & Welch, P.C. would like to remind you that this holiday was not always about enjoying a three-day weekend. It's okay to join in the festivities this weekend, but we would be remiss not to dedicate some time to honoring the holiday's true origins.

History of Memorial Day

Memorial Day (initially known as Decoration Day) was originally established to honor the military men and women who gave up their lives while serving our great country. Decoration Day was first observed three years after the Civil War and specifically honored the soldiers who lost their lives in that divisive civil battle. After World War I, Decoration Day expanded to honor all U.S. soldiers who lost their lives on the battlefield, regardless of when and where the battle took place.

Memorial Day / Decoration Day was locally observed in many different states and cities before being established as a federal holiday. There is some dispute as to where the first Memorial Day observances were held, but in 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson declared Waterloo, New York as the official birthplace of Memorial Day.

Thank You To Our Troops

This Memorial Day, the entire team at our law firm at the Lake of the Ozarks wishes to extend our deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to the brave men and women who dedicate their lives to serving our great country. Our soldiers give up everything for the sake of their service - they give up time with their families, they give up their physical comfort, and, in some cases, they give up their very lives. We do not take these sacrifices lightly, we hope everyone in our service knows that their efforts are not unappreciated.

On behalf of all us at PMCW Law, we would like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to the courageous men and women who bravely serve the United States of America. We are incredibly grateful for your service.
