Traffic Violations 101



There are many different kinds of traffic violations that happen in the state of Missouri. From driving while drunk to failing to stop at a stop sign, we've seen many cases. The punishments vary from offense to offense. Here are a few examples of some of the common actions people take that can worsen their punishment when it comes to a traffic offense.
  • Not taking a breathalyzer od drug test when asked by an officer
  • Not filing an accident report
  • Running away from the scene of a car accident
  • Not having car insurance
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs

Points on Your Driving Record


Points can be added to your driving record when you get traffic tickets. According DMV.org, your license can be suspended if you get so many points.

If you accumulate 8 or more points within a time frame of 18 months, your:
  • 1st suspension will be for 30 days.
  • 2nd suspension will be for 60 days.
  • 3rd suspension (and subsequent suspensions) will be for 90 days.
The Missouri DOR can revoke your driving privileges for 1 year, if you accumulate:
  • 12 or more points within 12 months.
  • 18 or more points within 24 months.
  • 24 or more points within 36 months.
