The Who, What, and Why Behind Restraining Orders

WHO

There are many people who may choose to file restraining orders and you don't have to be married to do so. For example, if you are in a relationship and you feel threatened by your significant other, you may choose to file for a restraining order. If you are out with friends at a local restaurant and realize you are being stalked by someone you don't even know, you may choose to file a restraining order. If you are at work and feel threatened by a customer who proceeds to stalk you, you may choose to file for a restraining order. These are all examples of people who may choose to file restraining orders.

A restraining order, for the record, is a TEMPORARY order by the court that prohibits a person from contacting or approaching another person.

WHAT

These sorts of situations can be very intense to lead a person to file for a restraining order against another person. These types of situations can vary from anything involving physical abuse to rape to causing emotional distress. Everyone has their own reasoning for choosing to file a restraining order.

WHY

A person may file a restraining order because they simply want to feel safe and these order can prohibit someone from stalking you, thus abusing you or causing you any more emotional distress. Also, if you do put an order of protection or restraining order against someone and they violate such order, law enforcement may be called and this person you have filed the order against may be put in prison for violating such order and could even be out of your life for much longer than what the temporary restraining order stated.
