Protect your child with MOCHIP

Protect our Children

According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, The U.S. Department of Justice reports that in a one-year period of time studied, 797,500 children younger than 18 were reported missing for an average of 2,185 children being reported missing each day.  Some other hard hitting statistics from this organization:

  • More than 200,000 children were abducted by family members.
  • More than 58,000 children were abducted by non family members.
  • An estimated 115 children were the victims of “stereotypical” kidnapping. These “stereotypical” kidnappings involved someone the child did not know or was an acquaintance. The child was held overnight, transported 50 miles or more, killed, ransomed or held with the intent to keep the child permanently.
  • In Missouri, there are currently 401 missing children.  Here is a link to see these missing kids - http://www.mshp.dps.missouri.gov/CJ51/Search?page=1&county=&personType=J
  • The first three hours are the most critical when trying to locate a missing child. The murder of an abducted child is rare, and an estimated 100 cases in which an abducted child is murdered occur in the U.S. each year. A 2006 study indicated that 76.2 percent of abducted children who are killed are dead within three hours of the abduction.

Missouri Child Identification & Protection Program (MOCHIP Child ID)

MOCHIP is a comprehensive child identification & protection program designed to provide families a proactive means of preparation should their child or teen become missing.

This information is provided to the parents via a mini-CD and the information on the disk is "AMBER ALERT" compatible. The dental bite wafer used provides an impression of the biting surface, which like fingerprints, is unique to each child. This wafer also collects enough saliva to provide a DNA sample and a source scent for trained canine search and recovery teams.

NO INFORMATION IS RETAINED. After each MOCHIP event, individual computers are wiped clean of all gathered information using specialized software, after which the private, password protected, MoCHIP server undergoes a 3-phase specialized deletion process to obliterate all files collected that day. This process takes anywhere from 45 min. to 2 hours, depending on how many children had been processed at a particular event.

Who can participate?

Any child from the age of 0-21. Whether it be from Missouri or bordering states, or visiting relatives for that matter, MoCHIP will process any child.
