Boating Safety Tips
1. Designate a sober captain.
Drinking while boating should be avoided at all times. If you want to drink and ride on the boat, that's one thing, but just make sure you have someone who is sober and plans to remain sober throughout the entire event to captain your boat. You can also can a boat taxi service and hire someone to drive your boat back for you.
2. Have enough life jackets for everyone on board.
If you are pulled over by the Water Patrol and you don't have enough life jackets on board for all passengers and the captain, you could face a serious fine.
3. Pay attention.
Huge events like Aquapalooza bring several people to the Lake, which means there will be several people in the water at once. When you are boating at this event, pay attention to those who are in the water and those who are in boats also enjoying the event. Failing to do so can result in serious accidents.
Getting a BWI is a serious offense and if you are driving a boat you should be sober at all times. Drinking while boating not only endangers your life but also the passengers you have on your boat and those who may either be swimming or fishing in the water around you or on a boat near you. If you find yourself getting a BWI at the Lake of the Ozarks, whether you are from here or visiting from out of town, call Phillips, McElyea, Carpenter, and Welch at 573-346-7231 for your free consultation.
