Boating Safety Tips

Boating safely can save lives. See below for some boating safety tips.

1. Always designate a sober captain.
Typically, fun Lake events involve alcohol. Have a good time, but if you know you are going to be drinking - make sure you have someone sober to drive your boat home. Water Patrol will be out and if you are drinking and boating, there's a chance you will be stopped. There's also a big chance you will injure those around you and yourself if you attempt to boat and drink, so just plan ahead and have a sober driver.

2. Be cautious in highly populated water areas.
As we said earlier, there are typically thousands of spectators at the Shootout, so just drive cautiously when boating in those areas and pay attention anyone how may be swimming in the area to try and avoid a boat accident.

3. Have enough lifejackets on board for everyone on the boat.
If you don't have enough life jackets on board for everyone and you stopped by the Water Patrol, you could receive a fine or other punishment.

4. Stay hydrated.
When your dehydrated and manning a boat there's a chance you aren't able to think as clearly. Bring plenty of water and drink it!

5. Be weather conscious.
While it's typically pretty warm at the Lake of the Ozarks this time of year, there's always a chance of rain or storms, so just check the forecast before you head out on the boat and have a plan in the event it storms unexpectedly.
